"Go to be treated like a royal," or at least "a lumber baron of yore", at
this Wayne State New American "grande dame" housed in an "opulent"
Victorian showplace that's "elegant in every regard" featuring Tiffany
chandeliers, stained-glass windows, marble fireplaces and rich woods
throughout; the desserts are "to die for", but the savories are "wonderful"
too, with lunch "an especially good deal."

Celebrities in the House!

Hollywood has struck once again in Detroit and this time it was here at The Whitney! This past weekend, pop sensation and celebrity teen-queen, Miley Cyrus was here to film the English-language remake: LOL. After a full weekend of transforming The Whitney's third floor Ghostbar into an elaborate set, the crew was finally ready to film on Sunday. The day was filled with lights, cameras and busy film gurus but it was also a day to be remembered by The Whitney staff. Some sat and chatted with Miley as she waited for her cue and others stood smiling from a far. Either way, it was an exciting day to witness Hollywood in the making.

Fusion Wednesdays Tonight at The Whitney!

The Tulips Will Soon Bid Us Adieu

In a few weeks, The Whitney will be replacing our beloved tulip center piece with a new display in the walkway in front of the restaurant. We have enjoyed having the tulips grace the mansion this summer. We can’t possibly count the number of photos our customers took standing in front of the Whitney and the over-sized annuals – many asking their server to take the picture of their entire group. Still, it was time for a change. Therefore, The Whitney will unveil brand new, enormous, totally awesome.... Nope, sorry - you will have to wait a few more weeks for the unveiling. Stay tuned - the Parade Company is in full production mode applying their incredible artistry and flare to create something truly unique for The Whitney!

Once upon a time in a distant memory of Detroit in the glam-punk-rawkin' 1980s, Carloyn Striho fronted a group called the Cubes, one of the best bands of its day. She's been doing it like an eternal teenage dream ever since, heading up the equally punchy Detroit Energy Asylum, and collaborating with Patti Smith (yes, that Patti Smith) and Vinne Dombrowski of Sponge.

This Thursday, Aug. 5, Striho welcomes the multi-talented Troy Gregory (the Witches, the Stepsisters, Dirtbombs, Nathaniel Mayer) to a swingin' garden and patio party at the Whitney. The jams will be kicking out 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. The Whitney is at 4421 Woodward Avenue, in Midtown Detroit."

The Whitney's Pleasure Garden

Every great restaurant needs a great chef. Here at The Whitney, our Head Chef Dan Maurer is just that. Every night Dan prepares amazing, flavorful meals for all of our diners and receives rave reviews! Recently, Michael Jackman from Metro Times decided that he and his friends wanted to come and taste one of Chef Dan’s “Tasting Menus.” As always, Chef Dan impressed his guests who ended up staying several hours. Wedding season is in full force here at The Whitney! We have weddings so many weekends in the summer and love putting them on for our happy couples!

Did you know that The Whitney has private rooms for wedding receptions of 12 guests and up. The First Floor can seat approximately 180 guests. The entire mansion may be rented, based on availability, for a private wedding and can seat approximately 400 guests inside throughout the 3 floors. The Whitney Garden is also available for ceremonies and receptions in the Spring, Summer and early Fall months and can hold more than 400 guests.
